For a long time I (Dr. Katie) have wanted to provide people with so many different options to be able to work on their day to day mobility. To help to decrease those aches and pains that you wake up with your back. And help you to reach the dishes overhead in the high cabinet without pain. To be able to play with your kids/grandkids/nieces/nephews without worrying about having back pain or shoulder pain when you pick them up. To be able to go for a walk like you want to and not have to worry about your back, hips, or knees hurting. And really the list goes on and on. Truth be told, I want to be able to help everybody!

It kind of comes with the territory being a physical therapist. Everywhere I go, I notice when people are moving like they are in pain, or when somebody is avoiding doing something or is moving in an “abnormal movement pattern” - either because of an injury or pain or chronic muscle weakness and/or tightness. You just notice these things. Even before I was a PT though, I also just wanted to be able to help as many people as I can.

Becoming a PT and opening up Live Without Limits has given me a great opportunity to be able to help a great amount of people with my physical therapy services. We work with injuries, pain, function, and injury prevention and so much more. And then after a LONG TIME of thinking about it, I finally brought Live Without Limits’ Assisted Stretching Program to “life” in January of 2023 and it has been so great! So many people have been taking advantage of this offer and have seen improvements in their day to day life, which is what I was shooting for!

I had a client who used to not be able to get on and off of the floor without holding onto things because of pain and stiffness. She can now get on and off the floor with very limited difficulty! I have a client who was having difficulty with her squats at the gym and with a combination of our assisted stretching and personalized PT program for her, she has been able to crush them! I’ve also had people who have been able to drive more comfortably because of the assisted stretching and their shoulder not feeling so tight anymore when it’s on the steering wheel. And even somebody who has been able to continue with her claywork now that her elbow and her back can handle the positioning better! There have been SO many successes so far and it is so exciting that people are able to live more comfortably and do the things they want to because of these programs!

While more and more people have been taking up the opportunity to participate with these programs, I always think about how not everybody is in Connecticut. Not everybody can take advantage of these offers and get in on physical therapy or assisted stretching programs with me. So I decided to bring a program right to you instead! From the comfort of your own home (or wherever you are at the moment you are using it).

Live Without Limits “Move Better. Live Better. Daily Mobility Routine” program is launching and is on pre-sale now! These exercises will take you 5 minutes to do and are meant to do on a daily basis and are for the “average”, busy person! You don’t have to be of a specific activity level or anything to take part in this routine, this is for everybody! (Keep in mind too though, that if you have any injuries or any limitations from your doctor, reach out to me first to make sure it is a good fit for you!) The goal of these exercises and movements is to help you to be able to do all of the things that you want to do, without having to stop and think about them first!

Here are some things to know and keep in mind for our new program!

Mobility Routine Benefits

  1. Joint mobility - if you don’t move it you lose it. Losing mobility over time can cause increased health risks, including higher risk of back pain, arthritis, loss of muscle mass, and an overall increase in stiffness.

  2. Build better strength - the more mobile and flexible you are, the better strength you can get because you can utilize your muscles properly

  3. Less soreness - if you have healthier joints and muscles, when you do your workouts and activities you love, you are going to be utilizing your muscles more appropriately and completing movements correctly, and you are more likely to have less muscle soreness if you are consistent with your mobility!

  4. Longevity - if you want to be able to keep moving and doing the things you love as you get older, mobility is key. It will help you to continue to be able to do the things that you love to do and not have to worry as much about what may cause you pain!

Things to Keep in Mind

  1. This mobility routine is for general, full body mobility and health

  2. These 2 specific routines are meant to be alternated every other day! Do Mobility 1 on Sunday, Mobility 2 on Monday, Mobility 1 on Tuesday and so on and so forth! If you take a day off, get back on the next day with the day that would have been completed if you had done it the day before!

  3. There are other routines that can be completed, these are not the only exercises that are worth doing - these are just some great exercises that can help you achieve improved full body mobility in general

  4. It takes time to get into the routine of doing this - just like with anything else. It won’t be easy at first, the exercises, or getting into the routine, and that’s why you are doing it! These exercises won’t always be as hard as the first time you do them and every time you get up and do them, you are teaching your body and your brain will become more used to doing this throughout the week and you will eventually look forward to doing it too!

  5. If you have any current injuries or areas of significant or unusual pain, talk to your primary care doctor or a physical therapist (me!) about if this is the best option for you!

  6. If you are looking for sport specific mobility, we can help with that too. This is still a great place to get started and having said that there are specific routines for mobility that you can do depending on your sport of choice in order to maximize full body health and your performance in your sport and/or activity!
